Connection to the wild

I put Ronnie and his cage outside where the other birds feed. 
 I want him to keep in touch with the natural environment.
 I read on the Internet that they feed on greens and insects also, so I cut some lettuce up for him.
He seemed depressed and stop eating as if he was waiting for hi mother to feed him.
